Sat Jul 19, 2014 6:32pm EDT (Reuters) - A Florida jury has awarded the widow of a chain smoker who died of lung cancer punitive damages of more than $23 billion in her lawsuit against the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, the nation's second-biggest cigarette maker. Lawsuit claims jail inmate died due to beating

An investigation by the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office found no evidence that anyone at the jail willfully or intentionally harmed Gruber. However, the lawsuit claims Gruber was pepper sprayed and beaten by sheriff’s officers during processing at the jail, and that his subsequent requests for medical assistance were denied, despite the presence of contract medical personal at the jail, Correct Care Solutions, a health-care provider based in Nashville, Tenn. Hylla approves settlement of tow-truck wrongful death suit

2/24/2011 12:00 PM By Amelia Flood A woman's wrongful death suit filed over the deaths of her husband and infant son in a tow-truck accident is over. Madison County Circuit Judge David Hylla entered the final approval of the confidential settlement between Jessica Legens, Regions Bank and all of the defendants in her 2008 suit on Feb. 15. Jessica Legens sued tow truck driver Mark Ikerman, his employer Mannheim Services Corporation, the owners of Sparky's Pub 397 and Mac & Mick's Sports Bar and Grill for damages in excess of $50,000.
